The Hickory Bay film
I was asked by Kristin & Rachel to create a homepage video for their Hickory Bay surf resort accomodation. The aim was to highlight the accomodations proximity to the beach, spas, sauna, pumping surf break and beautiful details of both cottage and cabin.
We crafted a plan to jam pack it all into 2 days of filming. We invited cafe entrepreneurs/models Rob & Rach over for the night to capture some family at home and beach scenes before the winter months came rolling in. We even managed to convince them to go for a quick swim in the ocean but with the saunas and spas a short distance away it wasn’t too difficult.
We lucked it with the weather and waves! Levi O’connor and his lovely family came down from Kaikoura to act as our surf talent. We really worked him hard with multiple sessions to get the most out of the evening and morning light while the waves were good. I shot land, water and aerial angles. Some of my favourite shots were from the water with the pumping 2/3 foot swell unloading on the shallow sand in the corner. Just myself, Levi and the seals out there.
A beautiful part of Canterbury to explore and if you can get over there for a weekend mission you won’t regret it!
